By the time he reached adolescence, it had already become a personal refuge and a spark for ambition.
He attended La Tolérance through preschool, primary, and middle school, then began high school at Lycée Technique d’Adidogomé. His path changed when he moved to Spokane, Washington, where he completed high school at Mount Spokane. He later took business and audio engineering classes at Spokane Community Colleges, building both the technical and entrepreneurial foundations that now support his career.
His love for American hip-hop and R&B started at home. His brother played artists from the United States, and seeing the video for Hip Hop Hooray for the first time left a lasting impression. He performed in school recitals and, the night before leaving Togo, told his cousin he was going to the US to make music. Once he arrived, he began recording on a desktop computer, burning CDs, and sharing them at school. That was the beginning of a journey he never stepped away from.
Marie Romance believes every release marks progress. He considers Christmas Party an early breakthrough, but he stands behind all of his songs with equal pride. His sound has evolved into something more colorful and melodic, avoiding repetition and the expectation to fit into drill or trap trends. Diversity in tone and rhythm matters to him, and he treats each project as part of a wider body of work rather than a standalone moment.
His songwriting draws from personal experiences, the stories of others, hopes, and faith. He is intentional about what he chooses not to glorify.
