The Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy recently gathered by Bethesda Fountain for The Fall Luncheon. The Luncheon Co-Chairs Michele Brazil, Rankia Cohen, Stephanie Hessler, and Nicole Nunag raised a glass to toast the work of Betsy Smith, the President of the Central Park Conservancy, her staff, Jenny Price, and the members of the Women’s Committee for another successful year of events to support the care of the park.

Central Park, located in the heart of New York City, is a haven for nature enthusiasts, joggers, families, and tourists alike. It is a place where the hustle and bustle of city life can be momentarily forgotten, replaced by the serene beauty of nature. Central Park Conservancy is one organization that plays a significant role in maintaining and enhancing the park. Within this conservancy, the Women’s Committee stands out as a powerful and inspiring force dedicated to preserving and improving Central Park.
The Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy was founded in 1983, at a time when Central Park had fallen into a state of disrepair. Despite being a historic green space, the park had suffered from neglect and a lack of funding. This situation alarmed a group of women who were passionate about preserving the park’s natural beauty and historical significance. They decided to take action, and thus, the Women’s Committee was born.
Their primary objective was to raise awareness and funds for the restoration, maintenance, and development of Central Park. One of the Women’s Committee’s most significant contributions to Central Park has been its dedication to restoration and beautification projects. Over the years, they have successfully executed numerous initiatives to revitalize the park’s landscapes, monuments, and structures. This includes the restoration of iconic landmarks like the Bethesda Terrace, the Conservatory Garden, and the Central Park Zoo.

The Women’s Committee of the Central Park Conservancy is a shining example of the positive impact that a dedicated group of individuals can have on a community. Through their tireless efforts, this committee has significantly improved Central Park, restoring its beauty and historical significance. Their commitment to education, community engagement, and advocacy for the park ensures that Central Park remains a vibrant and treasured part of New York City for generations to come. The Women’s Committee serves as an inspiring model for community-driven conservation and restoration efforts across the country.
